Thump, Junk and more Junk

Every year the last weekend on June we try to make it down to Luling Texas to the Watermelon Thump. The town gets a little crazy for it - Its a four day celebration with parade, booths, carnivals, a watermelon eating, and more importantly seed spitting contest. The world record was set here in their designated spitway (on main street even) at 68 feet 9 1/8 inches. We try to make the parade... then by usually about noon we are totally cooked (its always well over 100 degrees out).

Any parade is bound to be awesome featuring cowgirl and longhorn shortbuses.

Jett seemed to disagree with one of the sentiments of one of the church floats...

Can't be much hotter than Luling on the thump.

Amelia loved the all the princes on the floats from everytown around.

and I loved getting to see the Zedlar Mill. I used to have a client down in Luling and would take some bbq and eat there. The town turned it into a park now and people were just sitting their drinks ontop of the falls and keeping cool... next year bring swimsuits.

On Sunday - we checked out the Cathedral of Junk. A guy here has been building this towering heap of Junk in his backyard since the 70's. I'd seen it on one of those shows on HGTV and wanted to check it out. I was expecting to be underwhelmed... but it was pretty cool.

Pretty much mazes of junk.

Melisa, Jett, and Amelia at the pinnacle - probably 4 or five stories high ontop a massive junk pile.

1984

While in Washington besides picking up a load of salmon, my mom had me take home some baby books and memory books. Here was my 25 questions from back then.

I thought line 16 was fitting for today. Lots of memories of trying to backspin and dance on cardboard in Michael Mallagh's basement - He always got to be Michael, I was Randy, and Matt was Tito.

Outside fun in Washington

McKinney Grandparents, Lydia, the kids and myself went to a wild life preserve as part of our trip. Amelia loves animals and was quite happy with this choice
Some highlights of what we saw
Jett's favorite part for sure was the bag of large Cheetos the kids split on the way back to the Evans
Then it was hamburgers and cousin fun to end the day

Also I found out that Amelia has been wanting to play some baseball, she found the equipment and set of to push the ball around the yard
I find this so cute, her attempt at a swing and a hit.

Swimming in Seattle

We went to Seattle a few weeks back and had so much fun seeing friends and family, it is going to take several posts to cover it all but I thought I would start with Amelia's favorite summer activity swimming, she has no fear when it come to the water.

Listen close to what she screams

I told her she had to go to the number to jump in, so she wouldn't do it by the steps, so "four" was her it is okay to jump her call.

Backstroke

Swim

Her cousin Lydia joined the fun

Unlike Grandma, aunt Stephanie, Jett, Jacob and myself who all preferred to stay dry

not that ossum

Having neighbors dogs going crazy all morning long with the possum stuck on the fence.
